What I wish I knew about my fertility

I wish I would’ve known about Modern Fertility when we started thinking about having kids. If I would have done Modern Fertility’s Hormone Fertility test I may have found out earlier that I had low egg reserve. I could have used Modern Fertility’s family planning timeline tool to plan out our children and better understand the chance of conceiving and/or miscarriage for my age. If I knew my egg reserve was low at 31 when we were married, we might have made different decisions, maybe not. But we would have had more options!

I like many other millenial women was extremely career focused in my twenties and into my thirties. My husband and I married at 30 (almost 31) and we wanted to wait a bit to have kids. We both worked long hours and traveled a lot and we wanted to enjoy time just the two of us prior to having children. We dated, got engaged and got married all within a 3 year time span.

Just under two years of being married we decided to start trying for a baby and it took us about 4 months. I got pregnant and had our first child when I was 33 years old (almost 34). We knew we wanted to have at least 1 more child and maybe 2 more so we decided we would have them close together. After all I knew I didn't have "much time" but I thought I would be able to have kids until I was 40 or so. I had no idea. I didn't really understand much about fertility. Now looking back, I was so naive. None of my friends or family had gone through infertility or miscarriage (at least they weren't talking publicly about it) I knew that having a baby after 35 was called "geriatric" and considered high-risk and I knew my mother went through menopause at an early age. But at the time I thought that meant she went through menopause around her late 40s because I thought menopause happened in your 50s or 60s.

Our daughter turned one year old in September 2017, I turned 35 years old November of 2017 and I was pregnant with our second by New Years Day 2018. As soon as I stopped breastfeeding which was around June, got my first period in July, I started tracking ovulation and we began trying for another baby so it again took around 4 months. I now realize how incredibly lucky I am to have been able to get pregnant so quickly both times. Although at the time it felt daunting, all the ovulation tracking, baby making timed perfectly, the negative pregnancy tests and then another period showing up. So many ovulation and pregnancy tests bought! Modern Fertility also has ovulation and pregnancy tests and prenatal vitamins all shipped to your door! Use my direct link for $5 off your order.

This test is the most comprehensive fertility hormone test you can take at home. The test and online experience include physician-reviewed, personalized reports, access to a weekly "egginars," a free 1:1 consultation with a fertility nurse, and an invitation to a real-talk community for people with ovaries to share their stories and get support.

The blood test is the same test you’d take at the clinic, only for a fraction of the cost. Proactive fertility hormone tests often aren’t covered by insurance and can cost $1,000+. However, at just $159, you get a super easy at-home test to take, send back to us, and get results in under 10 days.

This test gives you access to the information you need to plan ahead and navigate the world of fertility. All tests are conducted in a CLIA-certified lab — and Modern Fertility’s team of physicians and clinical advisors lead some of the nation’s top fertility clinics. Shipping is free on all orders. Modern Fertility only ships in the US.

What will the Modern Fertility Hormone Test tell you?

1. If you have more or fewer eggs than average for your age

2. Potential outcomes for IVF or egg freezing

3. What your hormone levels indicate for health conditions like PCOS or thyroid disorders

4. Insight into your reproductive health (which is a window into overall health!)

There is no one “crystal ball” test that will predict the future or tell you you're infertile. But looking into your hormone levels can give you more info about your reproductive health than age alone could. Whether you're thinking about starting a family soon or later down the road I highly recommend taking this hormone test.
